Overview
Nuka-Cola Radio, formally known as the Nuka-Cola Family Radio, is the promotional broadcast of the Nuka-World amusement park in 2287, luring thirsty travelers to the fabled park with vintage advertising and the park's iconic theme music. It is the gateway to the largest theme park in the post-war world.
History & Background
The Nuka-Cola Corporation maintained an elaborate marketing apparatus before the Great War, and the park's broadcast system was designed to welcome guests arriving by monorail from the Commonwealth. After the war, the park fell into the hands of raider gangs who carved it into territories, but the Nuka-Cola Family Radio broadcast continued to loop its pre-War welcome message. The signal is first picked up by the Sole Survivor at level 30 or higher, marking the start of the Nuka-World add-on's story.
Content & Format
Nuka-Cola Radio's broadcast consists of a condensed excerpt of the park's jaunty theme music followed by a cheerful pre-War announcement inviting listeners to visit Nuka-World before it closes for the season. The loop is upbeat, relentlessly optimistic, and entirely oblivious to the raiders, gunners, and robots that now populate the park. Tuning in marks the Nuka-World Transit Center on the player's map and is required to begin the All Aboard quest.
Wasteland Significance
Nuka-Cola Radio serves as the narrative on-ramp to Nuka-World, converting a decades-old advertisement into a real destination for the Commonwealth's adventurers. The contrast between the broadcast's sunny promises and the park's violent reality is a pointed commentary on the endurance of corporate messaging. For the raider gangs, the station is also a useful lure, drawing fresh marks and new recruits to their territory.
Notable Appearances
Nuka-Cola Radio appears exclusively in the Fallout 4 add-on Nuka-World, where it is essential to starting the expansion's questline. The Nuka-Cola Family Radio frequency joins the game's radio list once the add-on is installed and the player reaches the required level, and its theme music is among the most memorable original compositions in the series.
