Joshua Graham

Characters & NPCs · Source: Fallout: New Vegas — Honest Hearts add-on dialogue and Zion Canyon tribal records

Overview

SUBJECT: Joshua Graham, also designated 'the Burned Man.' Former Legate of Caesar's Legion, the first to hold the office. Current status: war leader of the Dead Horses tribe, Zion Canyon. The subject's survival of execution by fire is a matter of established record, though the mechanisms remain medically unexplained.

History & Background

A native of New Canaan, a Mormon settlement in Utah, the subject joined Caesar's Legion during its founding campaigns and helped forge the tribal alliance that became the Legion's military structure. Appointed Legate, the subject commanded Legion forces at the First Battle of Hoover Dam in 2277 and was defeated. Caesar, holding him responsible, ordered the subject coated in pitch, set alight, and cast into the Grand Canyon. The subject survived the fall and was recovered by the Dead Horses, eventually becoming their war leader.

Personality & Traits

Behavioral profile: austere, devout, and rigorously disciplined. The subject quotes scripture habitually, including Psalm 23, and frames his survival as divine mandate. Carries extensive burn scarring across his torso and arms, with bandaged hands that he regards as instruments of judgment. Retains a capacity for violence that coexists with genuine religious conviction.

Role in the Wasteland

In 2281, the subject leads the Dead Horses and the Sorrows in defense of Zion Canyon against the White Legs, a tribe armed and directed by the Legion. The Courier's intervention may see the subject survive the campaign or die in the final confrontation, with his example shaping the future of the New Canaanite diaspora.

Notable Appearances
