Sentry Bot

Technology & Robotics · Source: Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76

Overview

The Sentry Bot is the heavy end of pre-war military robotics: a hulking, tripedal war machine bristling with automatic weapons and missile launchers. It served as a mobile fortress for U.S. forces and continues to defend strategic sites long after the war.

History & Development

Sentry Bots were built for base defense and heavy security roles, with enough armor to shrug off small arms fire. Their deployment in military installations, munitions plants, and corporate headquarters meant many survived the war intact. Salvage crews and factions have long coveted their fusion cores and weapon systems.

Technical Specifications

The unit's tripedal legs provide stability for its twin weapon arms, typically a minigun and missile launcher, with some models mounting grenade weapons. Heavy alloy plating and internal reactor armor make it extremely durable. When critically damaged, a sentry bot's reactor can overload, triggering a massive explosion.

Wasteland Usage & Variants

Wasteland encounters with sentry bots range from dormant guard units to fully operational patrols in military ruins. The Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave both refurbished sentry bots for their own use. Unique variants, including the Ahab unit in the Automatron DLC, show the platform's adaptability.

Notable Appearances

Sentry bots appear throughout Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, guarding locations such as National Guard armories and the Mechanist's lair.
