Ripper (Ripper Chain-Blade)

Weapons & Gear · Source: Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76

Overview

The Ripper is a motorized melee weapon whose rapidly spinning serrated blade chews through flesh and armor. It is the wasteland's favorite instrument of gruesome close-quarters work.

History & Development

The Ripper began as a pre-war surgical and demolition tool before being repurposed as a weapon. Its design proved so effective that it saw widespread post-war production by various factions. The medical variant, used by pre-war doctors, is occasionally found in ruins.

Technical Specifications

A small engine spins the blade at extreme speed, delivering continuous damage as long as it contacts the target. It is light and fast, though the blade is fragile and requires frequent repair. Its sawing action makes it devastating against unarmored foes.

Wasteland Usage & Variants

Raiders, chem fiends, and serial killers favor the Ripper, while the Brotherhood and NCR use it for breaching operations. Unique variants include reinforced and electrified models. It is a staple of melee builds across the wastes.

Notable Appearances

The Ripper appears in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, including unique variants in the Mojave and Commonwealth.
