Overview
The Protectron is RobCo Industries' mass-produced multipurpose robot, a boxy bipedal unit used for security, customer service, and custodial work. Its simple, modular design made it one of the most common robots in pre-war America.
History & Development
RobCo sold Protectrons in a range of personality configurations, including law enforcement, medical, and retail models, each programmed for a narrow set of tasks. The robots were deployed widely in government buildings, vaults, and commercial centers. Their activation consoles remain a fixture of post-war ruins.
Technical Specifications
Protectrons are built on a rugged durasteel chassis with articulated arms and a single optical sensor. They are powered by internal batteries or facility power and are famously activated through RobCo-branded terminals or kiosks. Offensive models carry an integrated laser weapon, while utility variants mount cleaning or medical tools.
Wasteland Usage & Variants
Post-war, Protectrons continue their last programmed orders, guarding depots, museums, and amusement parks against trespassers. Vault-Tec used them as facility stewards, and Nuka-World deployed them as park staff. In Fallout 4 they can be hacked, reprogrammed, or stripped for robot-crafting parts.
Notable Appearances
Protectrons appear throughout Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Fallout: New Vegas's Old World Blues, with prominent concentrations at the RobCo facility and the Vault-Tec regional HQ in the Capital Wasteland.
