Vertibird
Technology & Robotics · Source: Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76
Overview
The Vertibird is a tiltrotor aircraft developed for the U.S. military and later fielded by the Enclave and the Brotherhood of Steel. It is the most common working aircraft in the post-war world.
History & Development
The Vertibird program matured from pre-war prototypes like the VB-01 into the VTOL workhorse of the Enclave. The Enclave used Vertibirds extensively across the Capital Wasteland, and the Brotherhood of Steel adopted captured models after defeating the Enclave. Appalachian records show Vertibirds in service with the Enclave's covert operations shortly after the war.
Technical Specifications
Vertibirds use twin tiltrotors for vertical takeoff and landing, with armored hulls capable of carrying troops and cargo. Variants include transport, gunship, and medical configurations. They are fast, loud, and surprisingly resilient, though maintenance is a constant challenge for post-war operators.
Wasteland Usage & Variants
The Brotherhood of Steel uses Vertibirds for patrols, troop drops, and supply runs across the Commonwealth. The Enclave employed them for strikes and evacuations, and the Institute briefly experimented with captured aircraft. Wastelanders often sight them as harbingers of faction activity.
Notable Appearances
Vertibirds appear throughout Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, including the famous Fallout 4 opening sequence and Brotherhood patrols over the Commonwealth.
