Overview

Black Mountain Radio is a bizarre and beloved broadcast in the Mojave Wasteland of 2281, transmitted from the nightkin stronghold of Black Mountain and hosted by the delusional nightkin Tabitha alongside her 'co-host' Rhonda, a computer. It is the most chaotic station in the region, mixing music, rambling monologues, and accidental comedy.

History & Background

Tabitha, a former follower of the Master from Fallout 1's era, led a band of nightkin to Black Mountain in search of a new master to serve, settling on the mountain's broadcast tower. Convinced that the facility's computer, Rhonda, is a living person and fellow talk-show host, Tabitha built a station around their imagined partnership. Her fractured mental state, a consequence of prolonged stealth-boy addiction, shapes every broadcast, and the station's fate hinges on the player's choices in the Crazy, Crazy, Crazy quest.

Content & Format

Black Mountain Radio's programming consists of pre-War music intercut with Tabitha's rambling tirades, her obsessive complaints about 'smooth skins,' and one-sided conversations with the unresponsive Rhonda. The broadcasts are frequently interrupted by Tabitha's rages, threats, and sudden mood swings, making every segment unpredictable. Depending on the quest's resolution, Tabitha either departs the mountain, leaving the station automated, or remains as its eccentric guardian.

Wasteland Significance

Black Mountain Radio is a tragicomic landmark, illustrating how deeply the wasteland can break a mind and how even the deranged seek connection and purpose. Its broadcasts draw curious listeners and adventurers to Black Mountain, making the station a de facto beacon for the Mojave's strangest stories. The station's survival is a test of the player's compassion toward enemies who are more victims than villains.

Notable Appearances

Black Mountain Radio appears in Fallout: New Vegas, centered on the Crazy, Crazy, Crazy quest at Black Mountain. Tabitha and Rhonda are among the game's most memorable characters, and the station's broadcasts are frequently quoted by fans as an example of the series' dark humor.
