Vault-Tec Corporation

Overview
Vault-Tec Corporation was the pre-war American corporation contracted by the federal government to build a nationwide network of underground fallout shelters, the Vaults. Publicly it marketed safe, comfortable post-apocalyptic living to anxious citizens. In secret, Vault-Tec designed its vaults as long-term social and biological experiments on the population.
History & Pre-War Operations
Founded in 2054, Vault-Tec won the government's shelter contract and by 2077 had overseen the construction of over one hundred vaults. Its leadership, including chief scientist Stanislaus Braun, treated the vaults as a scientific enterprise, embedding observational experiments into each vault's design. The corporation also coordinated with RobCo Industries, which supplied the Pip-Boy and vault computer systems, and with the federal government on continuity-of-government concerns.
Products & Technology
Vault-Tec's products included the vault shelters themselves, Vault-Tec jumpsuits, and the G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), a terraforming device intended to rebuild civilization. The company also standardized the Overseer role and vault door architecture across its facilities. Marketing materials, from commercials to the Vault-Tec mascot, were ubiquitous in pre-war America.
Post-War Legacy
Vault-Tec's legacy is the vaults themselves, scattered across the wasteland, many of them failed or horrifying experiments. Their inhabitants became sources of social disruption and scientific curiosity for post-war factions such as the Brotherhood of Steel and the Enclave. Vault-Tec's records, including its experiment blueprints, were inherited by the Enclave and remain sought after by scavengers and historians.
Notable Appearances
Vault-Tec appears across the series, including Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, with headquarters and regional offices in the Capital Wasteland, Appalachia, and the Commonwealth. Its iconic vault doors, terminals, and marketing artifacts are among the most recognizable relics of the pre-war world.
