Overview

Enclave Radio is the propaganda arm of the Enclave in the Capital Wasteland of 2277, broadcasting the honeyed, paternal voice of President John Henry Eden from the fortified bunker of Raven Rock. It is the only major station in the region openly run by a faction, and its programming is a masterclass in authoritarian reassurance.

History & Background

The station was established after the Enclave consolidated its presence in the eastern wastes under President Eden, a sentient computer who adopted the persona of an American president. Eden's broadcasts frame the Enclave as the legitimate continuation of the United States government, offering the wasteland's people a choice between civilization under the Enclave and annihilation by the mutated. The broadcasts intensify during the main quest as the Enclave moves to implement its plan for the purifier.

Content & Format

Enclave Radio alternates between stirring patriotic interludes, classic American music, and Eden's long-form speeches extolling the virtues of the pre-War nation and the necessity of cleansing mutation from the land. Eden directly addresses the Lone Wanderer during the quest line, attempting to recruit the player with promises of a restored America. The station's tone is uniformly warm, reasonable, and terrifyingly persuasive.

Wasteland Significance

Enclave Radio gives the Enclave a public face in a region where the faction's atrocities are otherwise only whispered about, laundering its agenda through the familiar language of American patriotism. For many wastelanders, the station is their only exposure to the Enclave, making Eden's propaganda a genuine recruitment and demoralization tool. Its broadcasts stand in stark contrast to the raucous, independent voice of Galaxy News Radio.

Notable Appearances

Enclave Radio is heard throughout Fallout 3's main quest, most prominently during the journey to Raven Rock and the confrontation with Eden. Its broadcasts are also featured in the Broken Steel add-on, where acting President John Henry Eden's death leaves the station's future uncertain.
