Pulse Gun

Technology & Robotics · Source: Fallout 2, Fallout: New Vegas (Old World Blues DLC)

Overview

The pulse gun is a specialized energy weapon designed to disable robots and powered armor by delivering a devastating electromagnetic pulse. It is nearly useless against living targets but devastating to machines.

History & Development

Pre-war military researchers developed pulse technology for anti-robot warfare and security operations. Small numbers of pulse guns were produced and stored at facilities like the Sierra Army Depot and Big Mountain. Wasteland technicians have continued to maintain these rare weapons.

Technical Specifications

The weapon fires a concentrated burst of electromagnetic energy that overloads robotic systems, often destroying them outright. It requires specialized energy cells and has a slower rate of fire than conventional energy weapons. Its effectiveness scales directly with target complexity, making synthetic enemies particularly vulnerable.

Wasteland Usage & Variants

Robot hunters and Brotherhood of Steel technicians prize pulse guns for clearing automated defenses. The Think Tank's researchers and Mojave scavengers also field them against rogue robots. Unique variants include upgraded models found within Big MT's facilities.

Notable Appearances

Pulse guns appear in Fallout 2 and are reintroduced in Fallout: New Vegas's Old World Blues DLC, where they prove invaluable against Big MT's robotic defenses.
