Overview
Vault 118 is an experimental vault for the ultra-wealthy, featured in the Far Harbor add-on for Fallout 4, where the elite residents' consciousnesses were transferred into robot bodies to survive.
History & Background
The vault's elite residents agreed to have their minds uploaded into prototype robotic frames, expecting a life of luxury in the post-war era. Instead, they found themselves trapped in a decaying facility, bickering over their eternal existence. When a resident is found murdered, the Sole Survivor must investigate a locked-room mystery among the robotic aristocrats in the quest Brain Dead.
Geography & Layout
The vault lies beneath a cliffside mansion on the Island, its ornate pre-war interior — lounges, dining halls, and private suites — now dusty and inhabited by the eccentric robotic residents.
Wasteland Significance
Vault 118 is a comedic, Agatha Christie-style murder mystery that satirizes the idle rich, and its robot-personhood themes resonate with the series' ongoing questions about identity and consciousness.
