The Children of Atom
Factions & Armies · Source: Fallout 3 (2008), Fallout 4 (2015), and Far Harbor DLC (2016)
Overview
The Children of Atom are a wasteland-wide faith that worships radiation and the atom as divine, gathering around the bombs and craters left by the Great War and treating the glow as holy light.
History & Background
The faith grew from the war's survivors, who found meaning in the atom's terrible power. Chapters appeared wherever the wasteland glowed: the church built around the unexploded bomb in Megaton, cells in the Commonwealth's Glowing Sea, and the fortified Nucleus beneath Far Harbor's old submarine — each community interpreting the faith in its own way.
Details & Timeline
2277: Confessor Cromwell preaches in Megaton, blessing those who revere the town's bomb. 2287: in the Commonwealth, the faithful gather at the Crater of Atom and Kingsport Lighthouse, while on Far Harbor the zealots of the Nucleus under High Confessor Tektus plot to destroy the island's fog with a submarine's warhead. The Sole Survivor can aid, infiltrate, or annihilate each chapter, reshaping the faith's future.
Wasteland Significance
The Children of Atom are proof that the wasteland creates its own religions — and that faith can be as dangerous as radiation. Their control of nuclear weapons at Megaton and Far Harbor makes them a political force no power can ignore, and their martyrs' willingness to die for the glow is both terrifying and awe-inspiring.
Notable Appearances
