Glowing One

The Glowing One represents an extreme stage of feral ghoul mutation — a creature that has absorbed such immense quantities of ambient radiation that its body has become a living radiological emitter. Visually, a Glowing One is unmistakable: its desiccated flesh glows with an eerie green-yellow bioluminescence, the light visibly pulsing through desiccated veins and exposed tissue, and it emits a constant radiological field that can sicken and kill unprotected humans from proximity alone.
Glowing Ones retain the basic morphology of feral ghouls — gaunt, desiccated, aggressive — but their capabilities are dramatically enhanced. Their most dangerous ability is a radiation burst: by concentrating their stored radiological energy, Glowing Ones can emit a powerful pulse of radiation that damages all non-ghoul targets in a wide radius while simultaneously healing and reviving nearby feral ghouls. This makes engagements with Glowing Ones exponentially more dangerous; any feral ghouls in the vicinity serve as a replenishing army that the Glowing One can repeatedly restore.
Glowing Ones are invariably found in areas of extreme radiological contamination: heavily irradiated reactor rooms, nuclear waste storage facilities, the immediate vicinity of unexploded warheads, and the most deeply irradiated zones of major urban ruins. Their existence is a grim testament to the timescales of post-war contamination — these creatures typically form in areas that have been continuously radioactive for over 200 years. Glowing One tissue samples are highly radioactive and have limited practical application beyond research into radiation biology, though some wasteland chemists have experimented with refined Glowing One material for applications best left unspecified.
