Radscorpion

Creatures & Mutants · Source: Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76

Radscorpions are among the most feared invertebrate predators of the wasteland — mutated descendants of the North American emperor scorpion, enlarged by radiation and environmental pressures to terrifying proportions. An adult radscorpion's body can measure six to ten feet from chelicerae to telson, with the tail adding considerable additional reach. Their chitinous exoskeleton, darkened to a deep brown or black by melanization, provides substantial protection against small-arms fire.

The radscorpion's primary threat comes from its venomous stinger, which delivers a potent hemotoxic venom causing rapid tissue necrosis, internal hemorrhaging, and — in severe cases — death within minutes. Even glancing strikes can cause debilitating pain and localized tissue damage. A secondary threat is their powerful pincers, capable of crushing bone and severing limbs.

Radscorpions are ambush predators, often burrowing just beneath the surface and erupting violently when prey approaches. They are most commonly encountered in arid and desert environments, with particularly dense populations in the Mojave Wasteland, though specimens have been documented as far east as the Capital Wasteland. Radscorpion poison glands are a valued alchemical ingredient, used in the production of antivenom and certain combat drugs. The Radscorpion Queen — an exceptionally large female — can command entire nests and poses a threat on par with the most dangerous wasteland megafauna.
