Floaters (FEV Origins)
Mutations & FEV · Source: Fallout and Fallout 2 in-game lore, Mariposa records
Overview
Floaters are grotesque FEV creations that hover and writhe through the wastes, composed of fused organic matter with a single glaring eye. They were created by the Master as part of his mutant armies. Their construction is among the Master's most intricate biological work.
Origin & Mechanism
Floaters were created in the Master's vats from FEV, fusing multiple donor organisms into a single airborne organism. Their bodies are largely composed of gas-filled tissue that lets them float, with tentacles for movement and attack. The process required precise FEV manipulation that only the Master's facilities could achieve.
Effects & Symptoms
Floaters drift through the air, striking with grasping tentacles and corrosive secretions. Their single eye provides a focal point for their attacks. They are resilient, with their diffuse bodies absorbing damage that would fell other creatures.
Wasteland Significance
Floaters served the Master's armies and were encountered across the West Coast, remaining a threat after his fall. They are frequently cited as proof of FEV's ability to create entirely new life forms. Their unsettling design makes them memorable terrors of the wastes.
Notable Appearances
Floaters appear in Fallout and Fallout 2. They are also mentioned in pre-war research notes on FEV applications.
