Little Lamplight
Locations & Ruins · Source: Fallout 3 (2008), Bethesda Game Studios — in-game world, terminals, and dialogue
Overview
Little Lamplight is a town governed entirely by children, hidden in a cave system in the Capital Wasteland, featured in Fallout 3. It is a unique community where no adult may enter and children are exiled at age 16 to the nearby settlement of Big Town.
History & Background
Founded generations earlier by children who fled the ruins, Little Lamplight developed its own rules and culture, complete with a mayor and a council. The big people of the wasteland are distrusted, and the town's isolation keeps it safe from the super mutants that prowl the region — though its caves connect to the deadly Vault 87 via Murder Pass. The future mayor, MacCready, is among its notable residents.
Geography & Layout
The town fills a series of caverns beneath the wasteland, with a central commons, a gift shop, and a jail for troublemakers. Murder Pass leads deeper into the cave system toward Vault 87's territory.
Wasteland Significance
Little Lamplight is one of the most memorable and controversial locations in Fallout 3, offering a darkly comic take on self-governance and childhood in the wastes and providing the entry point to the main quest's search for the GECK.
Notable Appearances
Fallout 3 (2008); MacCready's backstory is expanded in Fallout 4.
