Camp McCarran

Locations & Ruins · Source: Fallout: New Vegas (2010), Obsidian Entertainment — in-game world, terminals, and dialogue

Overview

Camp McCarran is the New California Republic's primary military installation in the Mojave, built in the ruins of McCarran International Airport outside Las Vegas, featured in Fallout: New Vegas.

History & Background

The NCR converted the airport into a heavily fortified base complete with a monorail link to the New Vegas Strip, and it serves as the staging ground for NCR operations across the region. Colonel James Hsu commands the camp, managing supply shortages, Fiend incursions, and political pressure from both the NCR and New Vegas. Events such as the monorail bombing and the search for a missing Ranger unfold there.

Geography & Layout

The camp preserves the airport's terminals and tarmac, ringed by defensive walls, barracks, a supply depot, and the towering monorail station. The ruined outskirts of Las Vegas and the Fiend-infested hills press against its perimeter.

Wasteland Significance

Camp McCarran is the player's main gateway to NCR military life in New Vegas, hosting some of the game's most memorable quests and illustrating the NCR's logistical overstretch in the Mojave.
