Vault 92

Overview
Vault 92 was designed to research acoustic technology and white noise, featured in Fallout 3. Its experiments — intended to improve military performance — instead drove its inhabitants insane.
History & Background
The vault's researchers used sound frequencies, recordings, and specialized white-noise generators on the residents while attempting to develop improved soldiers. The acoustic assault triggered violent psychosis, and the vault devolved into chaos, leaving only feral ghouls behind. Its recordings and journals are scattered across the Capital Wasteland, including the haunting song recordings collected by the musician Agatha.
Geography & Layout
The vault lies in a crater outside the wastes' main settlements; its interior includes dormitories, a recording studio, and the white-noise test chambers where the experiment reached its horrifying conclusion.
Wasteland Significance
Vault 92 provides one of Fallout 3's most atmospheric horror set pieces and connects to Agatha's quest, one of the game's most beloved side stories.
