Mirelurk Queen

The Mirelurk Queen is the apex of mirelurk evolution — a gargantuan matriarch that can reach heights of fifteen to twenty feet when fully erect, with a carapace mass exceeding several tons. These creatures are the reproductive center of mirelurk colonies, producing the eggs from which all other mirelurk variants hatch, and they defend their nests with a ferocity that has ended the careers of even the most experienced wasteland hunters.
A mirelurk queen's offensive capabilities are devastating. Its primary ranged attack is a caustic bile projection — a stream of highly acidic digestive fluid that can partially dissolve combat armor, flesh, and even reinforced structures over sustained exposure. At close range, its claws — each the size of a human torso — can crush power armor frames and throw fully-grown humans dozens of feet. Its carapace is exceptionally thick, providing protection comparable to main battle tank armor against conventional weapons fire. Energy weapons that bypass physical armor are the recommended countermeasure.
Mirelurk queens are strictly territorial guardians, rarely venturing far from their nests unless provoked or deprived of food for the colony. Killing a queen does not guarantee the dissolution of her colony — subordinate mirelurks will continue to defend the nest, and if conditions are favorable, a juvenile female may undergo accelerated maturation to assume the queen role. Mirelurk queen meat, when harvested from the less-toxic internal tissues, is considered a legendary delicacy — a single queen can feed a settlement for weeks, though the logistics of the kill itself make this an irregular occurrence.
