Stingwing

Creatures & Mutants · Source: Fallout 4, Fallout 76

Stingwings are mutated aerial predators resembling oversized scorpionflies (order Mecoptera), indigenous to the Commonwealth and Appalachian regions. With wingspans of approximately four to five feet and venomous stingers at the tip of their elongated abdomens, stingwings represent one of the more formidable insectoid threats in the wasteland. They are named for their distinctive hunting behavior: dive-bombing prey and delivering a paralytic venom sting before feeding.

Stingwing venom is a neurotoxic compound that can induce temporary paralysis, disorientation, and severe pain in human-sized targets. Multiple stings can be fatal even to well-equipped wastelanders. Stingwings typically hunt in small swarms of three to six individuals, coordinating their attacks to overwhelm prey through sheer aerial harassment.

Their chitinous carapaces offer some protection against small-arms fire, though they remain vulnerable to energy weapons and explosives. Stingwing glands are prized by wasteland chemists for their use in crafting potent poisons and anti-venom compounds. The creatures prefer wooded and forested areas, nesting in high places where they can survey hunting grounds below.
